오호 시대, 중국 사천지방에 촉산이란 곳이 있었다.
그중 한 곳인 곤륜산으로 사파의 마황 유천이 침입하자 곤륜파의 장문인 고월은 자신의 제자 현천종에게 곤륜파의 병기인 월금륜을 넘기고 그를 피신시킨다.
그리고 자신은 유천과 싸우다 죽는다.
